Album review: Lorna Shore – The Everblack is Festering Within Me
How long have I been waiting for this album! (How long, given the fact that I’m not exactly a super-duper long-term Lorna Shore fan, I’ve only really started listening to them this year.) This was perhaps one of my most awaited albums of the second half of 2025. And it was worth the wait!

Festival report: Oelde Open Air – Friday: Annisokay, Any Given Day & Pentastone (22 August 2025)
Aaaand another summer festival, this time a smaller one. Oelde Open Air is a two-day „festival“ in Oelde, Northrhine-Westfalia. I put „festival“ in quotation marks because it’s rather two days of open air concerts, organised by a collective of music fans who really did a great job at putting this together. I only attended one of the two days and here’s how it was.

Festival report: NEXUS Nerd Rock Festival 2025
This summer was intense in a lot of senses. This includes visiting a few festivals, and one of them stood out in a certain way: this year was the first time the NEXUS took place in its current form. NEXUS is a mix of convention and festival, which makes it somehow unique. I went there this year and here’s how I perceived the first edition of this festival. Spoiler alert: I think it was cool.

Release Friday – 22 August 2025
It’s been a while again. My summer has been busy. I guess at this point I can be happy if I manage to post a Release Friday once a month. Sorry sorry. Here’s what caught my attention recently: Firstly, let’s start with a fresh release today from one of my favourite German bands: Versengold released a new single, this time featuring the German rock band Madsen. Falscher Leuchtturm is a very typical Versengold-song that makes me tap my feet: A highly awaited new release for me was Private Line’s new single Alterlife. Private Line are a Finnish sleaze rock band I’ve been listening to since my teenage days. They went on a break for a few…

Release Friday – 18 July 2025
Oof. It’s been a while. I’ve been kinda busy throughout the last weeks, so now is actually the first time I find the time to put together my personal list of new releases. Bear with me, please. I’ll catch up on some of the things that I’ve missed. Let’s start with the most recent releases of last week: Fit For A King released a new song – and it comes with a feature. Chris Motionless of Motionless in White joined them for Witness The End and it’s a total banger: My slightly belated birthday present this year was a new single by Amon Amarth. We Rule The Waves was released on Thursday and it sounds very much…

Oelde Open Air 2025
And here’s another small festival to have on your radar: Oelde Open Air takes place on 22nd and 23rd August 2025 at the Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park in Oelde, a small town in the north of Northrhine Westfalia, more or less between Münster and Bielefeld. The two days are rather to be considered two separate concerts, as there are no combined tickets available. Friday’s line up is finest German metalcore / post hardcore with Pentastone, Any Given Day and headliners Annisokay. Saturday is more on the German (Indie) Rock side with Friends Don’t Lie, Kapelle Petra and Madsen. Tickets can be purchased via Eventim or on the event’s website. The tickets are 49€ each.

Release Friday – 23 May 2025
I’m a bit late to the party this time, but here’s my personal overview with my favourite releases from this week. Not a Friday release is Lost Society’s new single Dead People Scare Me (But The Living Make Me Sick), which is the first release since their album If The Sky Came Down in 2022 (and the intro to „their new era“). Another favourite of mine is Electric Callboy’s new single Revery, which is thematically on the darker, heavier side while, stylistically, it kinda carries a Power Metal vibe (I’ve read a comparison to older Sonata Arctica and it kinda fits?). One of my favourite Finnish Gothic Metal bands For My Pain…, who have recently started being…

Album review: Eluveitie – ÀNV
It took me a while to finally find the time to review this album, but here we go. I could not not review it, as Eluveitie’s been one of my favourite bands since … I don’t know, 2008 at least. I was waiting for this album with mixed feelings – excitement on the one hand, but also a little worried. Worried because after their decision to continue without a hurdy-gurdy player, I did not know what to expect from the new album. Also worried because when The Prodigal Ones was released, I didn’t quite feel like it sounded much like an Eluveitie song during the first listening. So let’s dive deeper into my final…
