Shorts: Release Friday – 29 August 2025
I am lacking the words to describe what’s currently going on. Last week there was a new release of Private Line, who hadn’t been active since *checks notes* 2011 when they released their album Dead Decade. This week, one of my fave Gothic Metal bands from my teenage days returned and melted my heart once again with a fresh, super damn beautiful song! Teenage-me would be very excited to know that all those bands I loved dearly when I was young will also be a part of my adult life.
I am speaking of Charon and their new single Fall of Angels. Super damn powerful, beautiful song, 10/10, Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto’s voice is still one of my favourite voices of all times:
After getting overly excited about a new song by Charon, my actual favourite release of this week is a song I’ve already heard live twice, but it was only released this week: Annisokay released their new single My Effigy with a divided one-shot live video capturing their performances at Wacken and Summer Breeze. I attended the latter show, which was my first encounter with the song, then I heard it again in Oelde last week (report is coming soon). I love it. I love, love, love it. Annisokay never stop making perfect songs.
Another super exciting new release of this week: Bloodred Hourglass released another song from their upcoming album. And Chasing Shadows comes with an amazing energy. I am so excited to hear the entire album and I absolutely can’t wait anymore.
Also, the queen has finally released her first solo song: Fabienne Erni, the singer of Eluveitie and ILLUMISHADE, has been working on a solo album lately and today is the release day of Sky’s Breath, which is an insanely beautiful song. Queen. I can only repeat it. FABIENNE ERNI IS A GODDAMN QUEEN. I will never let anybody say anything negative about her. Go stream this song, it’s amazing.
By the way, speaking of queens: There’s another one that somehow slipped my attention for the last release Friday post. Already on August 14th, the incredible Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum and The Dark Side of the Moon released her solo song I’m a Monster, which is part of her upcoming solo album. It’s pop-ish metal and super catchy and you should stream the shit out of it.
And finally, I missed out on one song that was released already last week: Electric Callboy recorded a cover of SUM41’s Still Waiting, since they’re currently touring with Frank Zummo. The song has been played live at their summer festival shows and now there’s also a studio version available. It’s nice, I like it.
