Shorts: Release Friday – 7 March 2025
Time for a new … category? Not sure if I’ll be able to keep up with this, but as some kind of „short news“ stuff I thought I might share my favourite releases of the week. Maybe it’ll turn into favourite releases of the month at some point, I’ll see. (Yes, just like everything on this blog this is just yet another fun project and I don’t think anybody but me gives a flying fuck :D)
So here’s the first release Friday in 2025. This week, there are actually two releases of two favourite bands of mine and I thought that nothing can beat a new song by Eluveitie, but with Imminence they got some unfair competition, especially since Imminence not only released a new single, but an entire album. So they’re a good starting point for today.
ith God Fearing Man Imminence released yet another banger this week that sent shivers down my spine and got stuck in my head for hours after giving it a first listen. The music video is a piece of art in itself (and I’d love to know if Harald Barrett is truly able to pull a violin bow out from behind his back like a sword without twitching from side to side or if there was some kind of pocket sewn into his coat 😂) Enjoy:
I’ve mentioned an album – which is basically just another re-release: A deluxe version of their latest album The Black. It’s called Return of the Black and includes, besides God Fearing Man, also their last release Death Shall Have No Dominion and the instrumental intro of the The Black tour, La Douleur Qui Est Sans Fin. Furthermore, they threw in a few features (some have been released before, like Death By A Thousand Cuts featuring Lucas Woodland of Holding Absence, others are new, for example The Call of the Void featuring Joel Holmqvist of Aviana. Joel joined them for this song at some of the shows of their tour and I’m eternally grateful that they recorded it as a studio version with him). Also there’s a VAAAL remix of Come Hell or High Water and The Black (and Vaaal is also currently touring the US with them as replacement for their bassist Christian) and a JILUKA/SENA remix of The Black (more touring party of Imminence in the US). So a lot to listen to for Imminence fans.
Already mentioned above: There’s also a new song by Eluveitie from their upcoming album ÀNV. The song is called Awen and hits right from the start with a beautiful violin intro. It’s also time to shine for our queen Fabienne Erni, who gets the main vocal parts. And my hurdy-gurdy loving heart is at peace because there’s also beautiful gurdy parts. All in all a very melodic song, not super folkish, despite the presence of violin, gurdy and whistles, but still amazing. The music video premieres at 4pm CET:
Release number 3 that made it onto my personal radar: Erdling, one of my favourite live acts of last year, released the first single with new line-up (both guitarists, Max and Valeria Nash, left the band and were replaced by Ole Enders). With Ohne Uns they wrote a song that is, once again, critical of mankind. A great song that for me personally sparks interest in their upcoming album Mana.
