Concert review: Aviana, The Gloom in the Corner, Diamond Construct (& Atena), Dynamo Eindhoven, 6 November 2025
This was one of my most awaited shows of the second half of 2025. Within the last months, Aviana has climbed the ranks of my favourite bands and is currently sitting quite far at the top, which got even worse through the release of their new album VOID, and the fact that I got to interview Joel Holmqvist for a German music magazine and he came across super sympathetic. I’m seriously somewhere deep down the Aviana rabbit hole and this show was like the holy grail of my concert year.
Here’s how it went.
First of all, we missed Atena almost completely due to the traffic. For some weird reason, it seems like Thursday evening is the worst day of the week to try to get through the Ruhr area, so we got pretty stuck in traffic and arrived only when Atena were already playing their last song. Which is a pity, because judged by what was coming after, the line up of this tour is 10/10 and something tells me that Atena is no exception. Good thing I’ll have another chance to see them in Oldenburg, and this time with less traffic for sure (especially because we don’t have to get through Essen…).
Diamond Construct
I had no idea of what was ahead of me except that Joel Holmqvist had called them „extremely cool“ and had talked about super cool effects and huge pedalboards – and wow was I impressed by said effects and pedalboards. I’m not gonna lie: My first impression was a very brief „What the heck?“ moment when their singer entered the stage in some kind of old fashioned jogging suit covered in rhinestones? Even the gloves he wore had rhinestones. Diamond Construct much. While their taste in clothes not necessarily matched mine, their music certainly matched my taste in music. They play metalcore with, indeed, quite a lot of pretty cool effects. Their sound is impressive and somewhat unique and I was sold pretty much from the start. I don’t remember much from their setlist, because as the first band I saw that night they definitely had the hardest time making a lasting impression, but I can say for sure that their performance was absolute fun. The crowd was really having it as well and all in all it was just a really good match for the whole line-up. I’m excited to see them again later this month and I definitely have to check out their music at some point when I find the time.
The Gloom in the Corner
I didn’t know them either and, once again, my only impression of that band so far came from Joel Holmqvist saying that their music was very „not normal“. And he was, to some extent, right.
First of all, it was striking how many people around us seemed to be there mainly to see The Gloom in the Corner. We had a guy standing right next to us in one of their t-shirts, it was packed, the atmosphere was basically like the headliner was about to enter the stage. And I gotta say their set generally had a strong headliner energy.
I was blown away. Their vocalist has an extremely catchy voice, especially his clear vocals made me melt on the spot. And I loved their somewhat theatralic vibe. Like … the overall vibe of music and performance reminded me somehow, in the farthest sense, of Ice Nine Kills and St Aurora, basically because both bands can have a similarly theatralic vibe (I’m especially thinking of INK’s latest single The Laugh Track, or St Aurora’s Disgrace of a Man). Watching their performance was so much fun and pure joy – at some point I started wondering what the heck is going on in Australia that I haven’t been noticing before, given that this was the fourth Australian band this year that completely caught me off-guard and quietly marched into my playlists. Australia, we gotta talk.
The Gloom in the Corner were so incredibly good that I definitely walked out as a fan. I didn’t manage to buy merch though because we really needed to head back home super quickly after the show due to work the next day, but I definitely will try to get something in Oldenburg.
Aviana
Given the fact that when I first listened to their music I didn’t quite like them that much, I cried a lot during this show because I love their music so much. Like … actually I cried for two songs straight (not just because I love them but also because the past week had been absolute shit that I lost it after Anomaly).
I can’t put my anxious anticipation before the show into words. I was bobbing up and down on my feet because I couldn’t wait for a single second longer and I stopped breathing for a moment when their drummer Dark entered the stage. They opened with Father, which was already a „close to mental breakdown“ start, followed by Redroom, which was just as much „mental breakdown“. I’d been waiting to hear this song live since I’ve first heard the new album and I am so incredibly happy that they played it.
For me, it was the first time to see them with their new stage outfits and the masks and while I didn’t really like them when I first saw them on photos, I have to admit that while taking photos at the show I’ve learned to appreciate the fact that they now included white and my autofocus was able to find them on stage. Also their light show this time was, I think, less heavy on stroboscopic light and all in all just very cool. Shoutout to their light technician – if I saw it correctly, they’re currently working with Andreas Krieger (who – no offence – is the reason why I decided to stop even trying to shoot Self Deception because I hated their light so much during the last shows. He did a great job for Aviana though.)
I am still a sucker for their entire performance. I can only praise, once again, how incredibly great the performance of their guitarists Fear and Death comes across. They really filled their stage personas with life and I am all here for it.
The set mainly was 50:50 VOID and Corporation, except for My Worst Enemy, which marked the only pre-this line up-song in the set, coming from their 2019 album Epicenter. It was all in all a good mix and with Evermore and World’s Pulse there were two more songs I’d been incredibly excited to finally hear live. Still said though that As Above, So Below – Aviana’s sort of „can we do this to our fans“-experiment – wasn’t part of the set. It was expected, because I knew they only played it like twice in the US, and that it was just an experiment and that it’s not even on the album BUT I LOVE THIS SONG, I AM NOT EVEN SORRY. It made me almost as sad as hearing the final of World’s Pulse, knowing that the show was going to be over soon.
The set has exactly the same problem as the album: IT’S TOO SHORT. It leaves you craving for more. They played for NOT EVEN AN HOUR (and yes, I can’t help it, I just have to capslock my emotions about this offense …) and honestly, after I cried through Curriculum and Obsession entirely and had managed to pull my shit together again for the grand final, I just started crying again after the show because the concert I had been waiting for for soooo long was over and they hadn’t even played for 60 minutes. My heart was broken.
All in all, Aviana have shown once again what an incredible live band they are and I love them so much and you have to go and see them if you haven’t because you miss out on something great if you don’t.
