Festival review: Rock for Tolerance Friday – 21 June 2024

Rock for Tolerance was my first festival in 2024. After seeing Oceans twice this year already, I was a bit in an Oceans-phase. When I read that they would headline Rock for Tolerance, which meant a longer set than we’d ever seen of them, and that the festival was only about 2-2.5 hours away, I bought tickets without thinking too much about it.  Thankfully I was also allowed to take photos, lots of love to the RfT-staff. However, I only went there on Friday. The line-up on Saturday wasn’t my cup of tea and I felt a little ill anyway, so I really needed to rest and we didn’t go back on Saturday (although we would’ve had time after the Bad Omens shows in Europe were cancelled).  And as another small addition, we arrived fairly late since my girlfriend had to work on Friday and we could only leave in

Concert review: St Aurora (& The Night Flight Orchestra), Tavastia Helsinki, 17 May 2024

This show was probably one of my most awaited shows in the past few years. St Aurora are one of my favourite Spotify discoveries. Their song They All Remember popped up in a Spotify mixtape of my girlfriend in September 2021 and since then, I lost my heart to this band. Players of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty might be familiar with their song Going To Heaven – which is an absolute banger. I was super excited when I found out that they play a support show in Helsinki during the time I would be there for a seminar, which gave me the opportunity to see them live for the very first time. Here’s how it went.

Concert review: I Prevail, Set It Off & Kid Bookie, Mitsubishi Electric Halle Düsseldorf, 11 May 2024

When I saw I Prevail in 2023, I was fairly unimpressed. To be fair, I was there for the support act (Blind Channel), and I got ill before the second show I saw of them. Considering this, I decided to give them a second chance and I got tickets for their tour this year almost as soon as they went on sale. I wasn’t too positive about the show when they announced shortly before the tour started that they would have to do it without Brian. So to be honest, even on the road there I was still almost convinced that the evening wouldn’t go too well. Let’s see if I was right.

Concert review: The Warning & Conquer Divide, Live Music Hall Cologne, 17 April 2024

Yet another concert I visited to see the support act. This tour was Conquer Divide’s first tour ever in Europe. I’m a big fan of their music since their feature in Electric Callboy’s Fuckboi, so I was super excited to hear that they would finally play shows in Germany. Only that those shows were sold out before they were even announced and I can tell that this was the most painful struggle for tickets ever, worse than Bad Omens or BMTH, because while in the latter cases, most resale tickets were just ridiculously overpriced, there were almost no resale tickets for this Cologne show at all. In the end we somehow managed to get one ticket and one spot on the guestlist, so here we are with a little concert review. Little because I honestly can’t say much about The Warning.

Concert review: Fiddler’s Green & The Feelgood Mclouds, Carlswerk Victoria Cologne, 12 April 2024

Concerts during week days can sometimes be a bit troublesome. Especially when they are Cologne. Getting there is a pain in the ass and also I’m often so exhausted from work that I don’t really feel ready for a concert at all. Thankfully Fiddler’s Green are the type of band that will make the evening great even when I felt mostly like staying at home. The show of their The Green Machine Tour was no exception…

Concert review: Normandie, As December Falls & Self Deception, Technikum Munich, 16 March 2024

How far do you go to see a band you love play a set of 30 minutes? In that case: a 6 hour train ride all the way to Munich. I know, there are people who travel with the band, but I’m sure none of those are full-time teachers. So for me and my circumstances, this is quite a distance to travel for only a concert – and I think so far this has been one of the furthest trips I’ve made for a concert exclusively. Anyway, this was the second show of this tour that I attended. I was also at their show in Cologne, but since I had only recovered from a cold and spent the entire rest of the show after Self Deception’s set sitting in a corner with a massive headache and almost unable to breathe, I didn’t write a concert review for it. This time,

Concert review: Our Mirage, Oceans & Maelføy, Don’t Panic Essen, 9 March 2024

Edit: Parts of this review were written shortly after the show, parts of it about 4 weeks later due to lack of time – so this is a mess. And I still haven’t finished editing my photos, so they will be added later.  Second round of this tour. I can tell straight away that this will be less of a concert review – because this time I got a photo pass (for the first time – or second, somehow, if we count that one time Self Deception just allowed me to bring a better camera) and since I was very busy moving around to take photos I didn’t take much in of the concert. A pity, but also a great opportunity.

Concert review: Blind Channel, Ghøstkid & Rock Band From Hell, Turbinenhalle 2 Oberhausen, 21 March 2024

Edit: This review was written the day after the concert, but since I was very busy (and got ill) I couldn’t edit my photos and hence couldn’t post this earlier than now. In 2022, I bought a better compact camera to be able to take photos of Blind Channel at their tour with Electric Callboy. This band brought back my lost passion for concert photography and when I started taking photos at their shows I thought “One day I wanna be in the photo pit for Blind Channel.” Well, that day was yesterday – so here we are with a concert review that is slightly clouded by the fact that I was partly focusing on my photography.  But at the same time, this was probably one of my favourite BC shows so far. Friendly reminder not to post any of those photos on Tumblr, Pinterest, Discord or any other social
